Is there a purpose for this?

On tuesday the house was full of guests as the legislature was trying to get through 4 very strong issues that are troubling many citizens of Texas right now. The four on topic were abortion, human cloning, states rights, and immigration. These are topics that I personally feel can't be just pushed under the rug. It seems as though that day many people were there trying to get all of the many messages they had across, when actually it seemed more of a rush. The problem here I think is that when issues like this are presented they should be given equal time and equal attention. That day while some anxious abortion mothers were surrounded by lobbyists in suits and illegal immigrants just as anxious as them, it seemed like there was no single attention to any of the sides. I understand that some meetings will run into others, but these topics should require full attention. Apparently these meetings ran into the late hours and held many people there. Yes I'm sure what had to be taken care of, got taken care of, but amidst all of the excitement I don't think it's fair that these would be all taken care of at the same time. These issues should take time to figure out and should be given the proper respect.

  1. Now I believe they do this because these are very sensitive topics to talk about especially when it comes to abortion... I believe this subject is strictly up to the Women if she wants it or not, I don’t think it should be up to the government to make a decision like that. This is a great argument and something you can talk about for a long time. Now I think they need to stop putting these topics to the side and make them a priory... Great blog

  2. I just got finished reading Ms. Maggie's blog on this very interesting thing the Legislature did last Tuesday. Supposedly the legislature was full of guests as they were trying to get through four very important issues that are concerning the public a lot right now: abortion, immigration, human cloning and states rights.

I totally agree with Ms. Maggie in that when issues like this are presented, the legislature should give equal time and equal attention to these. I agree with Maggie in that every one of these issues require full attention and should be given its own time to be discussed.

I just think there are things that have to be really thought and really understood before making a decision, and I don't see how they can do this successfully when they have not only one, but four of the major issues concerning Texas citizens being discussed in the same day.

Ms. Maggie presented her ideas very well and very clearly, and I have to say I agree with her in every point she made. Most importantly I agree with her in that the legislature should spend the necessary time in these issues and should give them the proper respect they deserve!
